IBEW members helped spread holiday cheer this season to homeless and underprivileged children once again this year during the 9th Annual Christmas Toy Drive to benefit Dreams for Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization that celebrates the holiday with children who otherwise might not receive anything for Christmas.
More than 100 volunteers assisted organizers at the Dreams For Kids Holiday for Hope Celebration. Local 134 volunteers, who also helped wrap presents, included Ken Anderson, Michael Caddigan, Larry Crawley, Lyn Condon, Anita Howard, Linda McClay, Terry O’Connor, Gabi Smith and Matt Smith.
At the party, approximately 1,100 people from as far away as Peoria welcomed the holidays during the five-hour-long party that was held at the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville. Guests were treated to a hearty lunch before being sent home with shopping bags full of gifts.
"The greatest gift that we give every child that attends is the gift of hope," said Tom Tuohy, author and founder of Dreams For Kids and its Holiday For Hope Celebration.
Dreams for Kids gives Christmas cheer each year to more than 1,200 homeless and needy children living in transitional housing. Last year, the foundation collected $1,300 and toys for more than 500 children. For more information about the organization, visit www.dreamsforkids.org.
